The car is used by many people and contributes
to daily transport needs all over the world. At the same time, however,
the car causes environmental impact throughout all stages of its
life, from production to disposal.
We, Daihatsu, believe that compact cars play a significant role
in reducing environmental impact and our duty to future generations
is to work towards realization of recycling oriented society.

| Recycling Resources and
Prevention of Hazardous Waste Using
easy to recycle materials
We are aiming to integrate the type of materials we use to improve
recyclability. This includes standardizing materials for plastic
parts and simplification of materials. We have also prioritized
the use of easy-to-recycle thermoplastic and recycled materials
to make more of our parts.

Prevention
of using hazardous substances and identification
of plastic and rubber materials
We are working to prevent the use of hazardous substances, such
as lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium. Also we are identifying
material coding of plastics and rubber on each part of our products.
Our products comply with the EU ELV Directive and national ELV legislation
corresponding to EU Directive in each EU countries.

Pursuing
ecologically-sound development
Environmental problems today need to be addressed on a global scale.
Based on our slogan "We make it COMPACT," our corporate
activities are contributing to the creation of a socio-economic
system that functions in symbiosis with the environment. Daihatsu
adopts an all-encompassing approach to automobile manufacture, from
development, manufacturing and sales to the appropriate disposal
of end-of-life vehicles.
Product development
From the outset, Daihatsu pursues the goal of being the No.1 power
unit in terms of ecology and economy, with a low-fuel consumption,
low-emission engine based on revolutionary technology and incremental
improvements. We are also developing next-generation clean energy
sources as well as conducting research into traffic conditions.

TOPAZ
U-LEV Engine
(next-generation direct injection diesel engine)
Daihatsu has achieved ultra-low emission levels with the development
of its low-cost, compact, high performance, extended life
TOPAZ catalytic converter. |

Eco Station
In March 2001, Daihatsu opened a service station in front
of its headquarters for compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered
vehicles, which have almost zero emissions of harmful particulates
and low emissions of CO2. |

Dust Collection
System
So as to be positively accepted by local communities, our factories
comply with all relevant laws and ordinances. We are working to
reduce the impact of our activities on the environment and prevent
environmental problems before they occur. Reducing CO2 emissions,
curbing air and water pollution and cutting back on industrial waste
are all features of our environmental preservation management system.
All our factories have attained ISO14001 certification, and we have
achieved zero landfill waste. |

System
The introduction of this new system into our factories has
saved resources and energy,and helped to clean the air that
is discharged. |
Dust
Collection System
This system serves to prevent air pollution, and allows to
recycle the collected dust. |
Waste-Water
Treatment
The addition of this waste-water treatment system helps to
preserve the water quality in the area surrounding the factory. |
