Car Sharing
System
The convenience of the automobile is offset by the CO2 emissions
it produces and the traffic congestion it causes. In recent years,
trials of car sharing as one means of alleviating these issues have
been moving forward throughout Japan. Daihatsu has leveraged the
know-how gained from actively participating in these trials to develop
a Community-Based Car Sharing System that combines the company's
proprietary ITS technology with its core competence of small cars.
This innovative system was adopted in April 2004 and is being used
by Kansai's large new Saito development. It is also being used in
low-emission vehicles and vehicles used in public welfare. Daihatsu
is committed to continuing its support for environmentally responsible
car sharing. |

Public Welfare
Transportation Service Support System
The aging of Japan's population is driving a rapid increase in demand
for public welfare transportation services, which help transport
individuals who have difficulty moving about on their own from their
homes to hospitals and other care facilities.
Friendship i System, which Daihatsu released in June 2004, automatically
sends trip information from the vehicle and allows the fleet to
be managed from a computer located in a central office.
Through its Friendship Series of public welfare vehicles and its
Friendship i system for streamlining public welfare transportation
services, Daihatsu is committed to helping build a society where
all individuals can experience the pleasure of moving about outside
their homes.

When the driver enters his or her
user number with either the main unit's keypad or the IC card when
getting into or out of the car, the vehicle sends trip information
and can print a usage statement on the spot. |

Commercial
Vehicle Operation Streamlining Support
System
Daihatsu has developed Business Support i, a system that links computers
in offices and stores with vehicles to allow businesses to monitor
vehicle location and work status, to issue instructions and other
communications to fleet vehicles in the field. The company is enhancing
customer satisfaction by combining its unique small car know-how
with ITS technologies to create a simple, inexpensive, and easy-to-use
system that is optimized for use in small cars.
